Asset Management (ITAM) System

Information Technology Services (ITS) is implementing a new Information Technology Asset Management system statewide to improve the management of technology related assets. Phase I of the implementation includes ITS, DOA, OSP, OSBM, the Governor’s Office and Lt. Governor’s Office. The completion target for Phase I is the end of June.

The role of ITAM is to provide a standard suite of tools, databases, processes, and procedures that enable the strategic management of IT assets throughout their entire life cycles. ITS selected BMC Software and Column Technologies as the project integrator for the ITAM Project. The BMC tools are based on ITIL, the Information Technology Infrastructure Library, and the associated processes integrated with all of the pertinent management processes already in place (Incident, Change, Problem, and SLM Management). ITAM will also be a key enabler for the Configuration and Release Management processes that were introduced last fall.

The initial scope of ITAM includes physical assets such as servers, routers, switches, printers, and desktop computers, as well as certain software titles and applications. The new system will replace many of the existing inventory mechanisms and/or augment the functionality of some others. Data from existing databases, spreadsheets, and other systems will be migrated to the new system.
